Hi, I’m Mel.  I am a fully qualified and registered Teacher who has been working with young children for over 20 years.  I have worked in various roles both here in NZ and overseas all involving the care and education of young children.  Becoming a Mum to my daughter in 2015 presented me with the opportunity and desire to begin my journey with in-home care and Organic Kids.

First and foremost I believe what underpins my role as an educator is the relationship that I form with the children in my care, and their families.  Children thrive when they feel safe, secure and loved by the person caring for them.  Building a relationship based on trust and mutual respect is very important to me, as children develop a sense of well-being and belonging in my cosy, warm home environment alongside a small group of children.

My home provides a naturally focused and well resourced space for children to enjoy both indoor and outdoor play freely.  My environment is set up to meet the current interests of the children in my care and with a broad range of resources across many areas of play; art, dress ups, instruments, family play, blocks, music, mud kitchen, bikes, balls, loose parts and heuristic play to name but a few.

My daily programme provides opportunities for unhurried care moments, shared meals, peaceful sleep and plenty of play.  I enjoy plenty of time to engage in one on one moments with children and also share in small group experiences.  Children’s interests and urges for learning are heard and responded to whether it be outings in the community or play experiences at home.  My programme varies each day dependent on the needs and interests of the children and their ages and stages of development.  I enjoy involving the children in everyday experiences around my home; baking, tending to the veggie garden, and caring for our animals.

We often explore the community around us with outings to wonderful nature spaces, trips to the library and a music group.  We participate regularly in the activities and events that Organic Kids provide as a part of their programme; weekly playgroup, Forest ed and monthly outings.

I look forward to meeting you and your child(ren), having a chat and sharing ideas about how I can be a part of nurturing your child to grow and learn in my home.
