Mel – North New Brighton

NZ Diploma of Teaching ECE
NZ National Nanny Certificate

Hi, I’m Mel.  I have been caring for and educating children in Early Childhood since qualifying with my National Nanny Certificate in 1998.  I have worked both overseas and in NZ in a range of roles, in the home and within the preschool environment.  Becoming a parent gave me the opportunity to take my career in a different direction and begin in-home care in 2016.

I believe that children thrive when they feel safe, secure and happy with those caring for them, so building a relationship based on respect and trust in a small cosy environment is important to me.    I strive to maintain your child’s routine from home and make your life as a working parent as easy as possible!  My home provides a natural and well resourced space for children to enjoy both indoor and outdoor play where their interests will be nurtured and responded too.

There are opportunities within my daily programme for children to experience a range of experiences; both individually and in a small group. We love being outside in nature, creating in the mud kitchen, riding bikes and exploring the garden and play house.  My inside environment provides quiet spaces to sit and read, engage in role/pretend play, build and construct, dance and sing, and be creative with art/craft or messy play.  I enjoy involving children in everyday homelike experiences such as tending to the vege garden, baking and caring for animals also.

The community we live in has endless resources and activities that I utilise in my programme for the children, we regularly attend a local music session, tumble times, library story times alongside outings that Organic Kids provide; playgroup, forest education and monthly outings that meet children’s interests.

I look forward to meeting you and your children, having a chat and sharing ideas about how I can help your child to grow and learn in my home away from home
