Jasmine – Pegasus

Graduate Diploma in Teaching – ECE and Primary

Kia ora, my name is Jasmine. I live in beautiful Pegasus with my partner John, our son Blair and cat Luna. I am a fully qualified and registered teacher with 5 years teaching experience in early childhood centers and primary schools. I’m also a certified Rainbow Kids Yoga instructor and love empowering children with yoga, mindfulness and breathing techniques.

I am excited to be offering home based care as I am passionate about the benefits of children forming a secure attachment with a primary caregiver. Building on the foundation of this strong relationship, I can provide a nurturing environment where children feel comfortable to challenge and express themselves, developing their unique personalities.

We have just moved into our warm, sunny home with a fantastic indoor/outdoor flow. I look forward to sharing picnics and yoga on the deck and including the tamariki in planting and caring for vegetables, fruit trees and native plants in the backyard. Children will have plenty of uninterrupted time to explore the outdoors and foster an appreciation and love of nature to last for a lifetime. Our location is fantastic for regular outings, we are one block from the lake, close to many reserves and a 10 minute stroll from the innovative playground.

I let children’s natural curiosities guide the program and create play invitations to extend upon their interests while introducing new experiences for them to explore their senses through music, dance, stories, science, art and physical activity. I provide open ended resources for children to play with in their own way, encouraging imagination and a natural progression of learning. Children are active participants in meaningful everyday experiences, such as preparing/baking kai, weeding the garden and sweeping the deck, contributing to their sense of belonging and developing independence. Together we will create predictable rituals for settling in, meals and nap/quiet times.

I’m playful and you will often find me putting on the voices of all the characters in a story, holding a dance party or getting as messy as the children as we play in gloop and mud! A keen reader, I incorporate literacy into children’s play in meaningful ways, have a huge selection of books and plan to include a library visit for story-time and for children to choose books. I am conscious of the power of words on children’s well-being and development and use language to demonstrate respect, instill a growth mindset and validate emotions, building their emotional intelligence.

I am so excited to be part of Organic Kids and look forward to meeting you and your family.
